A PLATFORM TO THRIVE

Objectives and Scope
A reason to Thrive

Amber C. Year 7 advisor

“Thrive Through Sport has been a fabulous program that engages our students in activities which promote resilience, building self-confidence and teamwork. Learning through physical activity has allowed year 7 to flourish and gain an understanding of themselves and their peers. It has been vital in helping the year 7 cohort forge friendships and work together as a team. Jake, Ellie and Rodney have been second to none, they have been professional, patient and approachable throughout. I would definitely recommend Platform + Co.”

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

A Platform to Thrive’ is a dynamic and innovative initiative designed to engage and empower youth by utilising sports as a medium for teaching essential life skills. This program recognises the transformative power of sports and aims to foster personal development, social integration, and future success among its participants.

The program's core objective is to leverage the inherent qualities of sports, such as teamwork, discipline, resilience, and goal-setting, to instil critical life skills in youth. By incorporating both athletic and personal growth components, ‘A Platform to Thrive’ offers a holistic approach to empower young individuals and improve their overall well-being.

The program covers a range of topics including communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution. Also addressing emotional intelligence, self-awareness, resilience, and goal-setting, providing tools for personal growth. Experienced coaches guide participants, serving as positive role models and sources of inspiration providing guidance and support, helping participants develop essential life skills and make positive choices.

‘A Platform to Thrive’ evaluates its impact through qualitative and quantitative measures, tracking individual progress, personal development, and overall well-being. Key evaluation criteria include improved self-confidence, enhanced communication skills, increased school attendance, and decreased involvement in risky behaviours. A Depression Anxiety Stress Scales- Youth Version (DASS-Y) tool is used to monitor and evaluate the efficacy of the program

Within the program, youth gain valuable life skills, develop a sense of belonging, and build positive relationships with peers. The program equips participants with the tools necessary to navigate challenges, make informed decisions, and pursue their personal and professional goals, ultimately empowering them to become active and productive members of society.

  • The program is facilitated during Terms 2 and 3 and runs over a 20 week period through a hybrid method of face-to-face, teacher-led development and online learning if available (this is suitable to location and service).

  • Schools adopting a cluster approach provide the opportunity for additional face-to-face sessions at no extra charge. All schools in a collective region must be a ‘Thrive’ participant to be eligible (terms and conditions apply)
